WHY COACHING MATTERS

Coaching encourages people to clarify their priorities and devise plans for moving forward; it’s action oriented and serves as a catalyst for personal and professional growth that often isn't obtained through traditional education, training, or self-study.

It addresses a fundamental need for deliberate development, reflection, and accountability systems that guide people to achieve goals across career, leadership, and personal domains. By helping clients celebrate successes and reframe setbacks as learning opportunities, coaches facilitate resilient mindsets; clients are better able to adapt to - and drive - change.

Declaration Coaching helps you amplify your voice and elevate your work.

Throughout my career, I’ve worked with scores of executive, mid-career, and early-career professionals in many different settings. I never had a mentor, so worked hard to provide that to the emerging talent around me. My passion is helping people learn strategic skills early so they can experience more job satisfaction and create more impact in their workplaces.

The scenarios below describe typical client concerns, although the range is as diverse as the individuals and the unique goals they have.

The Unfulfilled Analyst

For three years, Alise has been working as a junior data analyst at a large tech firm. She's good at her job - she excels at crunching numbers, identifying trends, and drafting reports. With a degree in business analytics, she accepted the first job offer she received; however, the novelty has worn off. Her days feel repetitive and isolating, filled with spreadsheets and meetings where she has little opportunity to speak up. The initial excitement of working in tech has been replaced by a quiet dread each Sunday evening. Alise feels uninspired and has no real sense of purpose; she longs to work directly with people, not spreadsheets, but doesn't know what a new role would look like. This growing unease is prompting her to consider a career change, even though the idea of starting over feels daunting, and she doesn’t know where to begin.

Among other opportunities, coaching is valuable for learning how to:

give presentations - enhance relationships - manage up - overcome procrastination - lead projects - improve team motivation - reduce stress

The best coaches are adept at asking questions that inspire novel ways of thinking and elicit fresh answers. Working with a coach provides clients a creative space where they can experiment with new behaviors and design calculated risks, knowing they have an ally for reflecting on outcomes. This consistent support can close the normal, common gap many individuals experience between aspiration and accomplishment.

Rather than offering quick fixes or advice , coaching cultivates enduring change in how people think about and plan for their future. Coaches guide clients in finding their own solutions and learning how to learn.

The Overwhelmed High-Achiever

Marcel, a talented and driven project manager for a large state agency, received a promotion and now leads a cross-functional team over which he has no formal authority. While he's capable at individual tasks, he struggles with the increased demands of managing diverse personalities, delegating effectively, and balancing the needs of various stakeholders. He feels overwhelmed and worries he's not living up to his own expectations or his supervisor’s. Marcel also is finding it difficult to offer constructive feedback to peers who are reporting to him informally on this team. This is his first leadership role, and he feels uncertain about his communication skills and growing influence. He wants to understand how to improve his facilitation and collaboration.
